I recently wrote about how I’ve been feeling somehow both inspired and brain blocked when it comes to getting dressed. It’s been weeks of this frustrating back and forth, so today I decided to go rogue. All of my usual outfit formulations weren’t working for me, so I went in the opposite direction. No plan, no vision, just grab and go. I gave myself ten seconds to choose a top, a pair of pants and shoes, and whatever was chosen was locked in. I’m not going to lie, it started out rough. I love a plan. I love a vision! But, I was determined to make it work.

Before I started, I gave myself another rule for this challenge: the majority of the look had to be items that haven’t been worn in the last 30 days. It was already difficult choosing random items in 10 seconds or less, so why not make it harder?
The key to this challenge was sticking to the rules. Technically, I could take longer to choose items, and technically I didn’t have to use things from the back of my closet. But I quickly found that the more I committed, the easier the process became. Go figure.
The result is this breezy summer look featuring an old pair of Levi’s and a top with a DIY bubble hem. It’s such a simple outfit that would have stayed buried in my closet if not for this challenge. I have to admit, the premise of this project was a little daunting. However, the outfit turned out so well that I think I’ll repeat the process anytime I need a little style refresher!
