Wide leg jeans have been having a moment. Breathable legs and loose silhouettes are in, and skinny jeans are dead. At least according to Gen-Z. However, if there’s one thing I love, it’s taking an unpopular fashion piece and bringing it back for another round. For today’s look, I’m campaigning for a skinny jean revival. I’m not asking for any absolutes, because I’m definitely not giving up my beloved wide leg jeans. However, I am asking for an open mind. Skinny jeans still have life to live, I believe it!
I truly did not think that I’d be wearing skinny jeans again. Certainly not so soon after the appearance of the wide leg. Although my style isn’t confined to current trends, I couldn’t help but be seduced by the comfort of the wide leg. As someone who faithfully wore skinny jeans for years, letting my legs have a chance to breathe was refreshing. Also, nothing looks better with ankle boots than a wide leg pant.
That being said, I can never resist the opportunity for style contrast. Today, this pair of skinny jeans brought just the right amount of oomph that this outfit needed.
To keep things chic and decidedly less mid 2000s, I kept the color palette neutral. There’s nothing like all black to elevate a look.
The key to a skinny jean revival is leaning into a vintage aesthetic. Think more Audrey Hepburn or 90s supermodel, and less the chunky necklaces and peplum of 2012. There’s so much inspiration to be taken from looking to past fashion icons. In my research, through Pinterest obviously, I found a lot of neutral color palettes and contrasting shapes. Two things right up my alley.
For this look, I played around with contrast by pairing the skinny pant with the loose blazer. I also love the above-the-ankle cut. It shows off the shoe and gives off a vintage feel.
The overall look is simple and timeless.
