You Don’t Have to Reinvent the Wheel

I’ve so often found myself trying to do the most when it comes to my outfits. Especially at the beginning of a new year. I set a goal to be inventive with my daily wear, with little wiggle room for real life, and I inevitably burn myself out within the week. While there is a time and place for creative dressing, when it comes to everyday attire, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes a simple, tried and true formula produces the very best look.

My current go-to formula is an easy dress/boot/jacket combo. There’s something so effortless about a monochromatic base, and I love how streamlined the black dress, tights, and boots look together. It also allows for the jacket to be the star of the outfit. In this case, it’s all about the denim.

I’ve previously styled this outfit with a blazer, a peacoat, and a trench coat, all of which have suited different moods and climates. At this point, I think I’m just going to cycle through all of my jackets. Anything works with this monochrome foundation.

It even works to get rid of the jacket altogether and replace it with a chunky knit. The possibilities are endless!

What I’ve learned through this outfit cycle is that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel everyday. Sometimes an old favorite is all you need!
