A Classic Shoe

I think it’s clear by now that I’ve happily embraced suit shorts as a key part of my summer style. It’s always a surprise how quickly I can come around to liking a particular closet item. I went from feeling intimidated by these shorts, to pairing them with everything that I can find. Although the suit shorts play a critical role in today’s outfit, the real star is the Nike Cortez. I’ve been vocal about my love for this classic shoe, and today it was the item that I was craving most.

Whenever I want to wear a particular item, drafting up an outfit is a hit or miss experience. Either I know right away how to style it, or it takes many frustrating minutes to pull something together. Today fell into the latter category. When you’ve had a pair of shoes for a long time, it feels like everything has been done before. Creativity is hard to come by when it feels like you’ve already worn every possible iteration. This morning, to fight the brain block, I decided to focus on a new challenge– pair something new and something beloved with these shoes.

The result is the look you see here. An old vintage t-shirt that I’ve worn a thousand ways, paired with my new favorite shorts from Aritzia. It’s not necessarily a remarkable look, but it rescued me from my brain block so I’m calling it a win.
