From Night to Day

Can you take a tube top from night to day? That is exactly what I’m trying to figure out with this outfit. The obvious answer is yes. However, I’ve almost exclusively worn this top as an evening look. Breaking it out in daylight hours feels a little strange. Nevertheless, I’m always up for a challenge, and today that looks like moving this top from night to day.

Do you remember the Jenna Lyons era of J.Crew? This was the golden age of “high-low” dressing. Think denim with dress shirts, chunky statement jewelry, heels and neon accents galore. This was a defining era for my personal style. High school Miranda was all about combining fancy and casual items.

This was when I started to seriously experiment with my personal style. Suddenly nothing felt off limits!

While, I’ve retired much of my chunky jewelry and neon pieces, the essence of this era lives on. Naturally, my first instinct when styling this top for daytime, was to pair it with a casual pair of denim. Add in a pair of beloved ballet flats, and it’s a modern take on a tried and true practice.

It’s funny to me that, after all these years, I’m still leaning on old stylistic favorites. I guess the idea of high-low dressing is timeless.
