The start of a new season always brings with it an overwhelming desire to redo my entire closet. From scratch. No exceptions. Of course it’s highly unrealistic, not to mention financially irresponsible. But there’s just something about a seasonal shift that makes me want to reinvent myself. Since the weather has started to warm, I’ve been feeling the itch to make something new of my wardrobe. Instead of undergoing a complete overhaul, I’m making a point to see what I have in a new light. How can I style old pieces in a way that feels fresh and reflective of the new, spring version of myself?
One of my favorite ways to find style inspiration is online window shopping. I go to my favorite websites and see what’s on trend, then run to my closet to find ways to recreate those looks. This season, my website of choice has been Gap.
It really feels like Gap has returned to its roots, and I’ve been loving the 90s and early 2000s nostalgia. I’ve been particularly drawn to the casual ease of everything. The airy fabrics, the lace, the butter yellow, it all feels like a spring dream. In a perfect world, I could click ‘add to cart’ on everything, but in this world I’m looking through my closet to make do.
Today’s outfit is inspired by the classic denim and linen combo currently dominating Gap’s website. Something I love about this style is the simplicity. At its core, it’s a jeans and t-shirt outfit– with a balloon-shaped twist! I’ve had this shirt and these shoes for ages, and pairing them with a balloon jean gives them new life. It’s such a simple combination that feels excitingly fresh for spring. It’s also shockingly simple. So simple that it makes me laugh that I had to go online to find inspiration to create it.
