I went to a local coffee shop last week and was immediately struck by an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The entire vibe of the shop reminded me of one I used to frequent back in my college days, and it had me fondly reflecting on that time in my life. Particularly, my college fashion. When I was getting dressed this morning, I thought I’d lean in to this feeling of college nostalgia and draft up an outfit in tribute to a younger me.
A few things were clear staples in my college wardrobe: sneakers, tote bags, and oversized t-shirts.
This point in my life was particularly defined by the oversized t-shirt. I had one in almost every color and avoided my actual size like the plague. The appeal of these giant shirts was comfort and a sort of broken-in boyfriend aesthetic that had me in a chokehold. For this look, I tucked the tee into a pair of high waisted jeans. The tucked in t-shirt is a modern take on the oversized look. It still allows for the bagginess of the shirt, but tames the shape a bit.
While most of the oversized t-shirts have been replaced by true to size counterparts, I’m happy to report that the sneaker collection is alive and well. This particular pair of converse is the exact same pair that I used to wear everyday to and from class. I probably should get a new pair, but this one is perfectly broken in with that deliciously vintage feel!
To move this outfit from 2016 to 2025, I added my favorite vintage leather jacket, a baguette bag, and a classic claw clip. It’s a little 90s, and very reflective of my current style. I love this idea of updating old favorites for a new era. It’s a tribute to beloved times past, while also staying true to the person I’ve grown into.
Now I just need to stop by that coffee shop for the full nostalgic experience!
