Every now and then, a fashion trend comes along that leaves me feeling a little starry eyed. It’s either its propensity for looking effortlessly cool, novelty, practicality, or some combination of the three. In the case of the trench coat, it’s all of the above. Talk about style longevity. Trends have come and gone, and the appeal of the trench has remained the same. Timeless, classic, chic. On this cloudy Friday, I’m going for a trench coat vibe.
For this outfit, I wanted to stick to clean lines and neutral colors. The goal is to play off of the trench coat in an organic way. I don’t want to do anything revolutionary, the coat is a statement piece that deserves the star attention.
Whenever I’m looking to keep things simple, my go-to is an all black base. This black knit mini dress from Madewell is made of the perfect soft material to play off of the fabric of the trench. It has a cropped hemline that highlights the flowing movement of the trench, and the contrasting colors keep things interesting.
I took a risk here and added tall, lacy socks with my loafers. I normally like my socks to be invisible, but I thought this outfit needed something a little playful. Hence, the lace tipped socks. It feels a little funky, it feels a little vintage, and it’s definitely out of my comfort zone. I’m going for a trench coat vibe with a little bit of flair.
