Polka Dots and Denim

Hello polka dots! Whenever I wear this print, I can’t help but feel a little more refined, a little more mysterious, and a little more put together. It doesn’t necessarily make sense (what do polka dots have to do with mystery anyway?) but that isn’t the point. The point is, I feel like a different iteration of myself whenever I wear a fun print. I’ve played around with a lot of bold and bright prints. But, I’ve also come to learn that the print doesn’t have to be bold and in your face to encourage a little mood boost. On this Thursday morning, soft polka dots and denim are just what I needed for a midsummer pick me up.

What pairs well with a ruffly, polka dot shirt? Denim of course. I love the look of the rough edged denim with the dainty polka dots. It’s just the right amount of juxtaposition to make my contrast loving heart soar. Add in the ballet flats and the leather bag, and these old jean shorts are lifted to another level.

I love to wear prints, and I love to wear color. Even so, I think it’s obvious by now that I’m most comfortable in a solid set of neutrals. That’s why this polka dot top has so much appeal. It’s neutral in its black and white colorway, but still a little funky with the micro print.

Sometimes the day calls for bold (ice cream dress, I love you), and sometimes a slower morning calls for a quieter take. It turns out that both can exist within the same closet. You can wear the bold prints one day, and stay soft and neutral the next. I’m learning to take each days as it comes, and find what feels best.
