How to Style a Curly French Bob
Hello French Bob! This new haircut finally marks the end of my buzzcut grow out phase. Hallelujah. Also, I decided to get bangs. Literally right after I said I’d never have bangs again. Famous last words. This is officially the first hairstyle I’ve had since my last buzzcut and I thought, why not give the bob a little flair? Hence, the bangs. Thankfully they turned out amazing, and I am obsessed to say the least. I’m living out all of my Amelie dreams! Also, I’m thrilled to be rid of the mullet I was unintentionally rocking prior to this cut. That buzzcut grow out is no joke!
With every new haircut comes an initial learning curve when it comes to styling. It took a little bit of trial and error, but I think I’ve found the perfect way to style my French Bob. Maybe you’re thinking of getting this haircut, or maybe you already have a bob and are looking for a little styling inspiration. Either way, here is step by step How to style a curly French Bob!
Product
I have naturally curly hair, so the texture you see here is from my natural curl pattern. To achieve the messier/beachy look, I’ve been using a wave spray, some curl cream and a little bit of pomade. This has given my hair the volume and texture that I think works really well with this cut. Also, I don’t want my bangs to curl so these products help with that as well.
Wave Spray: R+CO Watermelon Wave Spray
Curl Cream: Cantu Coconut Curl Cream
Pomade: Oribe Rough Luxury Soft Molding Paste
Step One — Comb and Curl Cream
I always start with damp hair because this gives my curls a clean slate to build definition. I start by using a wide tooth comb to clear out any tangles and to get my bangs into place. Next, I add about a dime sized dollop of curl cream and scrunch it through my strands.
Step Two — Dry
After I’ve scrunched the curl cream into my hair to get the curls going, I diffuse on low until it’s about 80% dry. I also like to pay special attention to my bangs, making sure to blow them downwards so they remain straight. I then let it air-dry the rest of the way.
Step Three — Wave Spray and Pomade
After I’m done with the hairdryer, I add a little bit of pomade to my bangs to keep them messy looking and to be sure they stay in place. I also add a couple of spritzes of wave spray and scrunch it through my hair to increase volume.
And that’s it! Quick, easy, and perfect for everyday!
