Ballet Flat Season

The return of the ballet flat has had a distinct impact on recent style. Like with the return of most trends, I was a little hesitant to participate. This probably stems from the fact that ballet flats DEFINED my middle and high school years. I wore them with everything, from skinny jeans to pencil skirts, I could not get enough. As I grew older, I relinquished my choke hold on these shoes to embrace more comfortable and practical options. And yet, as I’ve often learned, some trends are timeless, and I’ve found myself in a ballet flat season once again.

These are my favorite types of looks. Just thrown together, in a rush, on the way out the door. Sometimes a time crunch is all I need to create a new favorite combination. It’s important to note here that I’m a chronic over thinker. I tend to overcomplicate certain things, like getting dressed in the morning. I worry about comfort, practicality, and that whatever I choose won’t be particularly inventive or inspiring. Ugh. Talk about exhausting!

Thankfully, the stress of running late this morning left little room for thought. To start, I knew that I wanted to wear my ballet flats. From there, everything else kind of fell into place.

In times like these, I’ve found that it’s useful to fall back on trusted outfit formulas. Today, this looked like wearing one of my favorite outfit combinations- black and light wash denim.

With the initial decisions made, I could just reach for the first thing in my closet— this beloved Aritzia top. The weather has been surprisingly accommodating lately, and it just so happened that the conditions were perfect for a long sleeve.

The more I look at this outfit, the more this top reminds me of the long sleeved leotards of my youth. Tucked into the shorts, it gives off a delightful fresh from ballet class vibe.

We all know I love a little festivity, so the fact that this thrown together outfit turned out to be ballet inspired is the happiest of coincidences!
