A Bike Short Alternative

Hello Summer! I always feel like summer dressing takes so much more brain power than it does for any other season. It’s funny because the summer heat means less clothes but somehow, less items feel more complex to pull together. When temperatures consistently reach the 90s, I find myself either rewearing the same combination, or defaulting to a t-shirt and bike shorts. This morning, I woke up craving a little more structure, so I drafted up a bike short alternative.

I think my style default is an oversized t-shirt, biker shorts, and my Hoka Bondi 8s. This is the outfit that I reach for when I’m craving the utmost comfort. I don’t want to bash this outfit. I could live in this outfit. However, I don’t want to fall back on it simply because I couldn’t be bothered to think of something else.

So, while the high 90s of this week’s forecast have me leaning towards my comfort look, I’ve taken it upon myself to draft up a comfortable alternative.

Do not let the structure of this outfit fool you. The poplin shirt and denim shorts are both so worn in and well loved that they feel as soft as a favorite shirt. While I may not be wearing bike shorts and a t-shirt, this outfit feels pretty darn close. This look was so easy to throw on, it reminds me of how easy it can be to try something different.

At this point in the season, I’m taking things day by day. Allowing myself to find what feels best, and to not think so hard about what is and isn’t fashionable. There’s no doubt that I’ll be wearing my bike shorts all summer, but for today, this is what feels best.
