Something Old Something Blue
Daylight savings is this weekend so that signals the official start of spring, right? Ok so maybe not the official start, but the weather has moved from absolutely frigid to a balmy, light-jacket-only climate. I’m calling that a win. March is always such a weird time of year for fashion. It’s decidedly too cold for spring’s light and airy fabrics. At the same time, it’s also too warm for thick knits and puffy layers. Even so, spring is in the air and I’ve been delightedly transitioning my wardrobe to more colorful, spring forward looks. Today this looks like a little something old (like my favorite leather jacket), and a little something blue (like these lovely suede heels).

At the beginning of every season, I almost have to re-learn how to dress for the change in weather. It’s funny how easy it is to get stuck in your ways. I’ve become so accustomed to wearing dark neutrals that any pop of color feels rebellious. To ease myself in, I’m starting with an unassuming color like this gentle, smoky blue.
Now that I look at this, I notice that I’m clearly still stuck in my winter ways. The single point of color in this entire outfit is the shoe. When I said easing into the season, I apparently meant easing in at the most glacial pace possible. But color is color, and in this case, the neutral base gives the subtle blue the chance to make a stronger visual impact.
For my something old, I’m once again reaching for my favorite leather jacket. This is quickly becoming the piece of the season, and I love how it gives a little 90s flair to every look.
As much as I’ve been loving wearing staples like leather, I’m also looking forward to experimenting with more color this season. If that looks like wearing head to toe fluorescents, amazing! If it looks like a tiny flash of brightness in a sea of neutrals, that’s equally worth celebrating! I’ve learned over the years that adopting new habits is much easier through little changes, rather than sweeping absolutes. Today’s look is an example of one such little change– reaching for a colorful shoe when I’d ordinarily go for anything in black leather.
All of this to say, spring is nigh! I’m off to celebrate this seasonal shift with an iced coffee and a little jig in my blue suede shoes.
Xx, M
