Riding Boots but Make it Tennis
If there’s any style trend I’m especially good at, it’s wearing things for the opposite of their intended purposes. For example, I love wearing blazers and loafers when I’m not going to be in an office, Dickie’s overalls when I won’t be doing any form of building or gardening, and athletic wear when I’m definitely not going to the gym. This is one of my favorite things about style. You can play around with different pieces and use them unexpectedly. Today’s look follows this exact pattern. It’s riding boots, but make it tennis.

Sometimes I craft up an outfit that on paper feels very out of my comfort zone, but in practice, becomes one of my favorite looks of the year. This is one of those outfits. It feels very much like something I’d save on Pinterest for inspiration, but wouldn’t actually replicate in real life. I thought it’d be a little extra for an everyday look, but it has turned out to be casual and fun in a model-off-duty kind of way.
It’s safe to say that I’m in love with how this turned out. It makes sense, it’s made up of a few of my most beloved pieces– riding boots, all black, the most comfortable tennis skirt.
I bought this tennis skirt (similar) from Aerie last summer and have never once worn it to play tennis. Or even pickleball. Instead, I’ve found it to be one of the best mini skirts to style with everything besides athletic wear. Unsurprisingly, it also pairs well with riding boots.
This look has reminded me that the best part of personal style is that you get to make the rules. Maybe this skirt will make it to a tennis court this summer. Or maybe not. Either way, it has earned its place as a seasonal wardrobe staple.
