Incorporate New Things
One of my goals for this year is to incorporate new things into my everyday life. It’s so easy for me to get comfortable in the familiar, and while that certainly has its merits, I really want to focus on leaning into the growth that new things bring about. I’ve got a few big things that I’m working on, but not all changes have to be drastic and dramatic. Take this style goal for example– this year I want to wear more color. You’re probably thinking, “but Miranda, you always try to wear more color,” and dear reader, you’re right. However, this time is *different* because this time, there’s no pressure.

One of the main reasons a goal of mine fails, is because I march into it with a rigid all-or-nothing mentality. If that take works for you, more power to you. For me, it’s only led to a string of forgotten goals and half finished projects. To make this year different, I’ve decided to pivot– out with the immovable guidelines, and in with gentle fluidity.
So, what does this look like on a practical level? Well, it looks a lot like doing the best that I can. Nothing more, nothing less. For the goal of wearing more color, I want to add one colorful item a week. That’s it. Easy right?
Today, I experimented with this by pulling this vibrant chartreuse sweater from the depths of my closet.
The goal was just the sweater, but the more I played around with outfit options, the more the other colors naturally fell into place. I mean, who would’ve guessed that a burgundy boot would work so well with chartreuse? And these old Anthropologie earrings? The perfect extra detail.
It’s funny how inspiration can flow from changing one small thing. There’s magic that happens when the pressure to be perfect is thrown out the window!
