A Hot Weather Staple Look
Lately my city has been trapped under the dreaded heat dome. Temperatures have been consistently in the 90s, the humidity has been at an all time high, and I’ve been slowly melting away. Heat this intense has really been testing my love for the season, as it’s impossible to go anywhere or do anything without sweating profusely. There’s nothing like pulling together the perfect outfit, only to have it ruined by sweat stains 5 minutes later. And so, my style has been relying upon a certain hot weather staple look for obvious reasons.
A good hot weather staple look in my book consists of a tank top in any neutral color (preferably one that hides sweat marks), and a solid pair of denim cut offs. Basically, something easy that looks put together in this crazy heat. I also don’t want to have to think too hard about what I’m wearing. The key here is less is more. For aesthetic purposes and also for survival. I’ve been wearing different iterations of this look all summer, but especially in this heat wave.
Here, I’ve paired my easiest and breeziest tank top with my favorite denim shorts and a classic Birkenstock sandal. I’ve also added minimal jewelry, in the form of earrings, to top off the look. Simple, casual, cool (in the literal and metaphorical sense). Sometimes the basics are a necessity. This heat is one of those times.
Looking back on this outfit, I realize that I could also substitute the Birkenstocks with a pair of ballet flats. Or to be even more on trend, a pair of mesh ballet flats. I have to admit, at first I was skeptical of the mesh shoe trend. Now? I have a few pairs in my online shopping carts. Such an interesting way to incorporate the ballet flat trend while also keeping cool throughout the summer!
What are your thoughts on the mesh shoe trend? Let me know in the comments!
