A Few Fall Musings
We’re officially in mid September, which means that fall is in full swing. The weather may disagree, but in my heart, it’s fall! I love this season for many reasons. The cozy vibes, holidays, and cinnamon scented things to name a few. There’s something so soothing about putting on a moody playlist, lighting a candle, and enjoying a good book in the fall. Sigh. I could go on forever. As the season kicks into high gear, I’ve had a few thoughts that have been circling my mind on loop. Here are a few of these fall musings.
On Changing My Hair
The start of a new season, without fail, always makes me want to change my hair. New season, new me. Or something like that. I’ve never been particularly attached to my hair. It grows quickly and I love experimenting with length. I’ve had everything over the years. From a buzzcut, to a pixie cut, to waist length curls, I’ve had it all. I’ve enjoyed every haircut I’ve ever had, and now that I’m growing out my hair, it’s the ultimate struggle not to chop everything off with a new cut.
I can’t get Juliette Binoche’s haircut in “Sabrina” off my mind! It’s tempting, but I’m committed to growing my hair at least until the end of the year. It’s been years since I’ve had longish hair and I want to know what that feels like again. For however long it lasts. All that being said, once January starts, all bets are off!
Barrel Leg Jeans
You either love them or you hate them. Either way, barrel jeans have made a statement these past few seasons. I, for one, love them. They give off just the right amount of flair to an ordinary t-shirt and jeans outfit. The shape is more than a little funky, and when styled right, can work as the perfect accent piece to a cozy fall outfit. This season, I have my eye on this pair from Madewell. I plan on wearing them with everything from sweaters and ballet flats to ankle boots and bodysuits.
On Slowing Down and Enjoying the Season
Every September I can’t help but feel a combination of excitement and anxiety. This month means fall is here, and I love being able to indulge in all of the seasonal festivities. However, at the same time, entering fall feels like we’re now on the fast track to the end of the year. With the holidays approaching, time moves so quickly and I feel like I can’t catch my breath. It’s an interesting combination of emotions. Excitement to finally be at my favorite time of year, and also frustration that 2024 is almost over. I feel like there’s so much left to do this year, and so little time to do it!
This year, I want to combat this seasonal dread by taking time to breathe, reflect, and enjoy the everyday moments. Ugh. It sounds so cheesy, but sometimes savoring the little things really helps to stretch the time. It’s only September after all. We still have three glorious months left of 2024, and I plan to make the most of them.
On Teaching Myself to Do My Own Nails
One indulgence I love is getting a good manicure. I don’t paint my nails often, and when I do, I love to get them professionally done. This is for two reasons. For one, it feels like a luxury to have someone else take care of my nails. Secondly, painting my own nails has always led to more frustration than relaxation. I can never get the color smooth and without streaks, and painting with my non-dominant hand leads to a manicure that looks like it was done by a child. Definitely not ideal.
However, I recently tried doing my own nails for a change. It turns out, I’m not as bad as I thought. With a little practice, my nails have been turning out surprisingly presentable. This has unlocked a whole new world for me, and I’ve been loving perfecting my craft. I’ll still enjoy going to the nail salon every once in a while, but for non-special occasions, I’m confident in my own nail skills.
If you’re still here, thank you so much for sticking around for a few of my fall musings. I love writing these brain dump posts, and I hope you enjoy reading them!
Ps. How do you feel about barrel jeans? Yay or Nay?
