A Summer Dress Styled for Fall

Welcome September! We have officially entered the beginning of fall. As much as I love summer, I will always be a fall girl at heart. I can’t wait for all of the cinnamon scented things, cozy layers, chilly nights, and spooky vibes. Although I would love to jump into everything cozy right away, the temperature still says summer. I live in a climate where September feels like an extension of summer, so I’ve had to get creative with how to dress. For this in between season, I’ve played around with my summer wardrobe to find something that looks fall but feels summer. A little bit of both. The final product is a favorite summer dress styled for fall!

Color is key when I’m looking to bring a fall twist to my summer wardrobe. I may not be able to wear fall specific fabrics yet, but I can switch to a more seasonally appropriate color palette. Thankfully, much of my summer wardrobe is neutral toned, so most items also work as transition pieces.

Here I’ve paired a shirt dress with fall staples like penny loafers and an animal print beret. I love how fall-inspired this look turned out. The poplin fabric of the dress is perfect for keeping cool in this late summer heat. The fuzzy beret also adds the right amount of fall flair to an otherwise summery look. I also love the versatility of this outfit. It works perfectly in this early fall weather, and can easily transition to late fall/winter with a pair of tights and a peacoat.

A simple summer dress styled for fall is a new take on a seasonal favorite. It may not feel like fall outside, but this outfit makes me feel like we’re that much closer to my favorite season!
