Fourth of July Inspired
When I think of the Forth of July, I can’t help but think of the summers of my childhood. Running around in a flag t-shirt from old navy, holding a sparkler with hands sticky from melted popsicle. As an adult, not much has changed when it comes to how I celebrate this summer holiday. I still love sparklers and a classic Bomb Pop. I’ve since grown out of those flag t-shirts, but that isn’t stopping me from dressing with a little festivity. In prep for tomorrow, I’ve drafted up a Fourth of July inspired look from what I could pull from my closet.
When I think of the Fourth of July, I think of summer in its strongest form. Barbecues, picnics, time spent outside with friends and family. Not to mention s’mores and sparklers! Nothing says outdoor aesthetic to me like gingham. Here I’ve paired my favorite gingham tank with a summer classic–the denim cutoff. Because it’s hot and the festivities are casual, I’m finishing off the look with a comfortable pair of leather flip flops.
It’s going to be hot, it’s probably going to be humid, and I may be sitting on grass at some point. An outfit that can do it all, i.e. look cute and be casual and functional, is the goal. Also, I’ve found that the less I have to think about my outfit the better. Hence the easy and breezy gingham/denim combination.
As I was wrapping up this Fourth of July inspired outfit, I came to the realization that I don’t have anything red. Missing this key holiday color meant I had to improvise. Here I’ve added a red accent by wearing a classic red lip. When in doubt, lipstick! Extra points if it’s a transfer proof lip stain. Especially if burgers and corn on the cob are involved!
