10 Frosty Winter Reads

When the cold of winter starts to hit in full force, I find myself leaning into all the festivity that the season brings. It’s either that, or spend too much time desperately longing for a far away spring. Although winter is far from my favorite season, there is something to be said about cozy layers, hot beverages, and snow! At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. To help embrace the winter months, I’ve compiled a list of 10 Frosty Winter Reads to hopefully make the season just a bit more exciting.

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten

It wouldn’t be winter reading without a moody fantasy novel. Bonus points if it’s romantasy, and also takes place in a gothic forest. For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten checks all of these boxes and then some.

The novel follows Red as she’s sacrificed to the Wolf that haunts the Wilderwood. Struggling with magic that feels like a curse, Red is all too ready to be handed over. However, not everything she’s been told is true. As she grows closer to the Wolf, the less he feels like a villain, and the more her magic starts to feel like a strength.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

You either love ACOTAR or you hate ACOTOR. There doesn’t seem to be much of a middle ground with this series. I happen to love it, and it always feels like the perfect winter read for an afternoon spent by the fire. While not wholly a winter novel, the first book starts off in a cold climate, and the series bounces back and forth across different wintery scenes.

*Readers should note, this series is Rated R

Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood

If I could put an Ali Hazelwood novel on every book list, I would. Her novels may be formulaic, but I don’t care. She’s a romance mainstay for a reason and I’ll read anything she publishes. Below Zero is a novella, part of her Loathe to Love You collection. It follows two NASA scientists on an expedition to the arctic. In typical Hazelwood fashion, this novella contains miscommunication, romance, and complicated stem politics.

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter

I have been an Ally Carter fan since her Gallagher Girls days. When I found out that she would be releasing an adult novel, I hit pre-order faster than you could say Gallagher Academy.

The novel follows a woman who wakes up in a snow bank in Paris with amnesia. A case of mistaken identity forces her to team up with a handsome, but grumpy, agent on a life-threatening espionage mission. With her life in danger until her identical twin can be found, she’s thrown head first into a world of secrecy, danger, and unexpected romance.

Not if I Save You First by Ally Carter

This novel is a YA gem from Ally Carter. Not if I Save You First is a survivalist novel that is written in a similar tone to Carter’s Gallagher Girls series. The novel follows Maddie as she works to protect her best friend Logan from an assassin in the Alaskan wilderness.

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Speaking of survivalist novels… Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick follows two high school friends embarking on a graduation backpacking trip through the Wyoming wilderness. What starts out as a last hurrah before college, quickly turns into a nightmarish game of cat and mouse with a serial killer on the loose.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Grey

This novel follows Marguerite Caine as she travels through the multi-verse to avenge her father’s death. As she jumps into different versions of herself, she starts to question everything she knows. It isn’t long before her mission, and her heart are at risk.

Isn’t it Bromantic? by Lyssa Kay Adams

While not necessarily a winter novel, Isn’t it Bromantic? is a Hockey romance, and thus is by default wintery. The novel follows hockey star Vlad Konnikov as he attempts to turn his marriage of convenience into a love match. This is part of the Bromance Bookclub series, but can be read just fine as a stand alone.

Permanent Record by Mary H. K. Choi

If you love the classic rom-com Notting Hill, you will love this novel by Mary H. K. Choi. Pablo is taking an indefinite hiatus from NYU while he gets his credit card debt under control. Working nights at a convenience store in Brooklyn, he’s feeling stuck in the monotony of his new routine. When pop superstar Leanna Smart walks in one winter night, both discover that love can be found in the most unexpected of places.

The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

After taking some time off from her job, detective Elin Warner finds herself celebrating her brother’s engagement at a sanatorium turned luxury hotel in the Swiss Alps. When his fiancee, Laure, goes missing, and with a winter storm trapping everyone at the hotel, Elin must find her before it’s too late.
